The 4-9 Boston College Eagles make the short trip across town for a matchup with the 11-1 Harvard Crimson Wednesday at 4PM.
Boston College’s early season struggles continued this past weekend in Brooklyn as they fell to VCU 69-50. The Eagles managed just 17 first half points and were ice cold from beyond the arc, finishing just 3-16 from deep. The Eagles were led once again by Olivier Hanlan’s 17 points and 5 assists but Hanlan only finished 3-10 from the floor. VCU’s havoc full court press forced the Eagles into a season high 23 turnovers and only 10 total assists. Boston College has now lost 5 of their last 6 with a difficult stretch of conference games looming.

Harvard is off to a red hot start and has emerged alongside Princeton as the front runners in the Ivy league. Harvard is undefeated at home and will look to snag bragging rights locally with BC visiting on New Year’s day. Harvard most recently traveled to Fordham and got the 94-86 win on the road. The Crimson put up 51 in the second half to withstand a run by Fordham that cut the lead to single digits late. The entire Harvard starting five scored in double figures and Agunwa Okolie added 17 off the bench. Kyle Casey added 17 and 9 and Siyani Chambers added 19 and 9 assists for the Crimson.
Some trends to consider - BC is 1-5 against the spread in their last 6 versus the Ivy league and Harvard is 5-0 against the spread in their last 5 non-conference games.
Harvard has been red hot of late and are the deeper and more skilled team between these two. BC plays a mid-major brand of ball as it is so they will not be able to overwhelm the Crimson physically or down low. I expect this contest to be close for a half before the Crimson pull away with the long ball and efficient guard play of Chambers and Saunders. Harvard with the cover at home to ring in the new year.
