Moody Coliseum will be loud when the Southern Methodist Mustangs welcome the Connecticut Huskies to town.
Connecticut can both score and defend but sometimes this team has lapses in either area that will make games close or actually cost them a win. Both happened last time out in a 75-71 road loss at Houston in which the Cougars stormed out to an 18 point lead after 20 minutes before holding off a second half rally. The Huskies were out shot 49%-41% which was enough for the Cougars to pull out the win. Shabazz Napier was a force on the offensive end for UConn with 27 points and nine boards with Ryan Boatright netting 19 points and nine dishes while DeAndre Daniels next in line with 12 points and five pulls.

Southern Methodist has proven to be a solid scoring and defensive squad which served them well during a five game winning streak which was halted in a 65-57 loss at Cincinnati. The strength of schedule of #197 might have played a role in their strong start but that will toughen significantly as the AAC schedule begins. The Mustangs did cive Cincinnati a run for their money with 45% shooting but the Bearcats forced 17 giveaways and owned a +15 at the foul line to off set cold 36.5% from the floor. The Mustangs offense was balance but far from explosive with Markus Kennedy leading the way with 12 points and nine rebounds with Nic Moore and Ben Moore tossing in nine points each while Keith Frazier added eight.
I don't always see Connecticut clearly but if they are trully a top 25 squad they will rebound from a dreadful effort versus Houston. The problem with that thinking is SMU is pretty good...
