The Utah State Aggies had been on a roll but they opened their MWC schedule on Wednesday with a loss at Air Force. It was USU’s first road loss of the year and they are 8-1 at home so far this season. Spencer Butterfield leads the Aggies averaging 14.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Preston Medlin is averaging 14.2 points, Kyle Davis is averaging 9.9 points and 8.6 rebounds, and Jalen Moore is averaging 6.5 points. As a team Utah State is averaging 76 points and they are shooting 49.2 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 65.2 points and their opponents shoot 41.8 percent. Utah State has played the 194th ranked schedule in the country and the jury is still out on how good this team is but they have proved they can get it done on the boards and that usually goes a long way.
The San Jose State Spartans have struggled this season and they got their MWC season off on the wrong foot losing to Nevada. SJSU has played the 299th ranked schedule in the country and they are 2-4 on the road this year. Rashad Muhammad is averaging 16.4 points per game to lead the Spartans. Jaleel Williams is averaging 11.6 points and 6.3 rebounds, Devante Wilson is averaging 10.7 points, and Chris Cunningham is averaging 8.3 points and 7.2 rebounds. San Jose State is averaging 70.9 points and they are shooting 39.6 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 71.2 points and their opponents are shooting 41 percent. San Jose State has just one win over a team with a RPI better than 200.
Utah State is10-2-1 against the spread in their last 13 home games, 4-1 against the spread against the Mountain West, and 2-8 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the spread. San Jose State is 5-2 against the spread in their last seven road games, 6-14 against the spread following a loss, and 1-4 against the spread in their last five games. The road team has covered the point spread in four of the last five meetings of these two.
This one looks like a blowout for the Aggies at home so I am going to lay the wood.
