The Michigan Wolverines and the Northwestern Wildcats face off on Sunday in Ann Arbor in Big Ten College basketball action.
The Michigan Wolverines got their Big 10 season off to a winning start on the road beating Minnesota for their third win in a row. Michigan is 5-1 at home this season and they have played the 55th ranked schedule in the nation. Nik Stauskas is averaging 17.8 points to lead the Wolverines. Glenn Robinson III is averaging 13.5 points, Caris LaVert is averaging 12.4 points, and Zak Irvin is averaging 8.2 points. As a team Michigan is averaging 77.8 points and they are shooting 46.9 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 63.2 points and their opponents are shooting 42 percent. Michigan is clearly not the team they were a year ago but they are still solid.

The Northwestern Wildcats were never in the game in their Big Ten opener as they were blown out at home by Wisconsin. Northwestern is 1-2 on the road this season and they have no wins against a team with a RPI better than 200. Drew Crawford is averaging 15.9 points and 7.7 rebounds to lead the Wildcats. JerShonn Cobb is averaging 12.2 points, Tre Demps is averaging 10.5 points, and Alex Olah is averaging 9.1 points and 5.4 rebounds. Northwestern is averaging 65.4 points and they are shooting 41 percent while defensively they are allowing 64.2 points and their opponents are shooting 41.6 percent. Northwestern will need to put their loss to Wisconsin in the rear view mirror and not get too far behind early.
Michigan is 3-1-1 against the spread in their last five home games, 3-10 against the spread against the Big Ten, and 1-4 against the spread following a game that they covered the points spread. Northwestern is 2-6 against the spread against the Big Ten, 2-7 against the spread in their last nine games overall, and 1-7 against the spread against a team with a winning record. The favorite has covered the point spread in five of the last seven meetings of these two.
Northwestern appears to be in bog trouble this year and I look for Michigan to roll them here.
