The Wichita State Shockers and the Illinois State Redbirds face off on Wednesday in MVC college basketball action.
The Wichita State Shockers are undefeated and ranked sixth in the nation and are clearly looking like one of the strongest teams in the country. WSU has won their first two MVC games and are 8-0 at home this season playing the 182nd ranked overall schedule. Cleanthony Early is averaging 16.5 points and 6.4 rebounds to lead the Shockers. Ron Baker is averaging 13.6 points, Fred Van Vleet is averaging 11.7 points and 5.3 assists, and Tekele Cotton is averaging 10.6 points and 4.9 rebounds. Wichita State is averaging 77.7 points and they are shooting 46.5 percent while defensively they are allowing 62.4 points and their opponents are shooting 41 percent. Wichita State is looking very much like the Final Four team they were a season ago.

The Illinois State Redbirds are 1-1 thus far in Missouri Valley Conference play and 7-6 overall this season. ISU has played the 114th ranked schedule going 2-3 away from home and this is their first game against a team ranked in the top 25. Daishon Knight is averaging 14.7 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. Zach Lofton is averaging 11.2 points, Bobby Hunter is averaging 9.6 points, and Paris Lee is averaging 8.1 points. Illinois State is averaging 72.6 points and they are shooting 40.4 percent while defensively they are allowing 73.8 points and their opponents are shooting 43.6 percent. Illinois State will be tested big here.
Wichita State is 6-2-1 against the spread in their last nine home games, 19-6-2 against the spread in their last 27 games overall, and 34-16-1 against the spread in their last 51 games against a team with a winning record. Illinois State is 6-13 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 1-6 against the spread following a game that they covered the spread, and 4-9 against the spread in their last 13 games against the spread with a winning percentage over .600. The favorite has covered the point spread in nine of the last 12 meetings of these two.
This is a monster number, but while I see Illinois State putting up a good fight in the first half, I see the Shockers running away with it in the end.
