The #22 Memphis Tigers take the hardwood at the KFC Yum! Center with the #8 Louisville Cardinals.
Memphis has been riding a potent scoring offense all the way to a top 25 ranking but that rank could be in jeopardy after 69-53 loss to visiting Cincinnati. A three game winning streak went by the wayside in the process with the Tigers never able to find the shooting touch at 33% with a 2-17 mark on threes and 16 turnovers capping off an all around bad day. The Tigers received 13 points and five yanks from Joe Jackson with Michael Dixon Jr netting 12 while Geron Johnson and David Pellom combined for 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Despite some internal strife Louisville has been business as usual with wins in eight of ten behind the best combination of scoring and defense in the game. The Cardinals didn't have their best day at the defensive end of the floor in an 83-76 victory at Rutgers but the scoring picked up the slack. Both teams connected in the 42%-43% range with the Cardinals turning 32 Scarlet Knights personals in to a 41-46 effort at the line while the home team went 24-32. Russ Smith poured in a game high 22 points with Luke Hancock adding 15 and Terry Rozier 14 followed by a 13 point performance from Wayne Blackshear. The scoring burst helped over come 12 more Rutgers looks in an uncharacteristic UL effort.
I guess my thoughts are if any team can cover the big number it's Louisville but if Memphis is top 25 material they should at least make it reasonably tough for the Cardinals...
