The Seton Hall Pirates visit the Bradley Center to battle the Marquette Golden Eagles Saturday afternoon at 2PM on Fox Sports Net.
Seton Hall hits the road after a tough home loss to #8 Villanova 83-67 this past weekend. The Pirates were dominated from the outset in this one and were never able to get into the game as the Villanova offensive attack was too powerful. Brian Oliver led the way for the Hall with 20 points, but added little on the boards. Sterling Gibbs had 13 points and 8 assists and Patrik Auda added 13 points and 6 rebounds. The Pirates sorely missed the presence of their enforcer down low as Gene Teague’s absence continues to hurt the already thin Seton Hall front line. The Pirates finished the game a solid 87.5% from the free throw line, the sole reason they didn’t fall by 20 in this one.
Marquette returns home after falling 86-79 to Xavier in what was probably their best road showing of the season. The Golden Eagles hung tough in a tough environment for the entire contest before the Musketeers pulled away late. Davante Gardner had his second straight impressive game with 19 points and 4 rebounds. Todd Mayo added 10 off the bench but the Golden Eagles deficit on the glass (-18) was their undoing. In addition to their rebounding deficiencies, the Golden Eagles had 28 personal fouls and that Xavier translated into 32 made free throws.
Both of these teams have underachieved on the young season but the Golden Eagles are a total different squad at home. I like Marquette, behind the strong post play of Gardner and Jamil Wilson’s shooting to be the difference as Marquette pulls away late in the second half for the cover and win at the Bradley Center.
