The Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Ole Miss Rebels face off on Saturday in a SEC college basketball rivalry game.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs hung with Kentucky in the SEC college basketball opener but in the second half they had no answers and were blown out. MSU is 10-4 for the season but they have played a soft 313th ranked schedule going 8-1 at home. Craig Sword is averaging 14.6 points and he leads the Bulldogs in scoring. Gavin Ware averages 10.7 points, Colin Borchert is averaging 9.9 points, and Roquez Johnson is averaging 9.2 points. As a team Mississippi State is averaging 70.3 points and they are shooting 45.7 percent while defensively they are allowing 66.9 points and their opponents are shooting 43.2 percent. Mississippi State is 8-1 at home this season but they don’t have a win over a team with RPI better than 100.

The Ole Miss Rebels won their SEC opener holding on for the win at home against a scrappy Auburn team. Ole Miss is 4-1 away from home this season but they don’t have a win over a team with a RPI over 100 despite playing the 97th ranked schedule. With Marshall Henderson still suspended Jarvis Summers is the Rebels leading scorer averaging 17.5 points. Derek Millinghaus is averaging 10.9 points, Demarco Cox is averaging 7.5 points and 6.1 rebounds, and LaDarius White is averaging 7.0 points per game. Ile Miss is averaging 78.7 points and they are shooting 43.7 percent while defensively they are allowing 71.3 points and their opponent is shooting 41 percent. Mississippi was a NCAA Tournament team last season and they are looking to get back this year.
Mississippi State is 1-5 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 9-20 against the spread following a loss, and 1-6 against the spread in their last seven games. Ole Miss is 4-1 against the spread against the SEC, 5-1 against the spread in their last six road games, and 0-3-1 against the spread following a win. The home team has covered the point spread in the last five meetings of these two.
This one should be a war and even without Henderson I give a slight edge to the Rebels.
