The Line: Texas Longhorns -9 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
Storyline: The Texas Longhorns got a pretty bad draw for the start of their Big 12 season, opening with a surging Oklahoma team then having to follow by facing 11th-ranked Oklahoma State. The Horns can end their two-game skid Saturday when they welcome Texas Tech, another Big 12 team that opened its conference slate with two losses.
The Breakdown: In its 87-74 loss to Oklahoma State Wednesday, Texas shot 40 percent from the field and connected on just 3 of 18 from beyond the arc, while allowing the Cowboys to shot 46 percent from the floor and 42 percent from distance. Sophomore G Demarcus Holland had a team-high 12 points and 10 rebounds on 4 of 11 shooting and freshman G Damarcus Coker added 12 points and 3 rebounds off the bench. The Longhorns outrebounded Ok State handily 45-33, but committed 16 turnovers to the Cowboys 7. Texas is 11-4 and on the season, they’re averaging 78.5 ppg on 44 percent shooting and junior F Jonathan Holmes leads the team with 13ppg on 54 percent shooting.

Meanwhile Texas Tech dropped its second straight in a 89-86 overtime loss to West Virginia Monday. The Red Raiders were outshot from the field 55 percent to 46 percent and from beyond the arc 42 percent to 38 percent. Tech connected on 22 of 26 from the free throw line and outrebounded the Mountaineers 35-26, but committed 15 turnovers to WVU’s 9. Junior F Jordan Tolbert scored a team-high 18 points on 6 of 12 shooting to go along with 12 rebounds and 2 blocks. Sophomore Toddrick Gotcher had 17 points and 5 assists, and senior F Jaye Crockett added 15 points and 4 boards. On the season, the Red Raiders are averaging 74.3 ppg on 47 percent shooting and Crockett leads the team with 14.1 ppg.
Rick’s Pick: The line in this one is currently set at -9 for Texas and the Longhorns’ win over North Carolina still really does mean something. Particularly against a Texas Tech team with no quality wins or losses, for that matter. Look for Texas to cover.
