The Vanderbilt Commodores and the Kentucky Wildcats face off on Saturday in Nashville in SEC college basketball action.
The Vanderbilt Commodores dropped their SEC opener at Alabama and they look for their first conference win of the year. Vandy is 6-1 at home this season and this is their first game against a team ranked in the top 25. Eric McClellan is averaging 14.2 points and 4.4 rebounds per game to lead the Commodores. Rod Odom is averaging 13.8 points and 6.1 rebounds, Damiam Jones is averaging 10.7 points, and Kyle Fuller is averaging 10 points. Vandy is averaging 70.2 points per game and they are shooting 46.5 percent while defensively they are allowing 66.5 points and their opponents are shooting 40.9 percent. Vanderbilt looks to be in somewhat of a rebuilding year.
The Kentucky Wildcats might be playing their best basketball of the season as they were loaded with raw talent that is now getting better each game. UK is 0-1 on the road this season but they have played the 12th ranked schedule in the nation. Julius Randle is averaging 17.4 points and 10.8 rebounds to lead the Cats. James Young is averaging 14.6 points, Aaron Harrison is averaging 14 points, and Andrew Harrison is averaging 10.9 points. Kentucky is averaging 81.1 points and they are shooting 48 percent from the floor while defensively they are allowing 66.1 points and their opponents are shooting 38.3 percent. Kentucky is clearly on of the favorites to be battling for the SEC title and a high seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Vanderbilt is 7-2 against the spread following a loss, 4-1 against the spread against the SEC, and 7-2 against the spread in their last nine Saturday games. Kentucky is 7-16 against the spread against the SEC, 1-9-1 against the spread in their last 11 road games, and 1-5 against the spread in their last ix road games following three or more home games. The road team has covered the point spread in six of the last seven meetings of these two.
Kentucky is the better team and I like then to win but I have Vandy covering the number.
