A share of first place in the Big East is on the line as Xavier visits the Creighton Bluejays at 3PM Sunday on CBS Sports network.
Xavier hits the road after holding on to beat a scrappy Marquette team at home this past week 86-79. Semaj Christon exploded for 28 points to lead the Musketeers and added 3 boards and 3 assists as well. In addition to Christon, Xavier got another strong game from Justin Martin who added 15 and 8. Matt Stainbrook was held in check by the bruising Marquette defense and finished with just 7 points and 8 rebounds. Xavier was fouled 28 times and finished 32-41 at the line -- likely the reason they were able to hold on for the late win.

Creighton has made their transition to the Big East a smooth one. The Bluejays are undefeated in Big East play and have won eight games in a row after two back to back heartbreaking losses nearly two months ago. Creighton is led by Doug McDermott and got a little more help for their leading scorer this past week in an 81-62 win at DePaul. The Bluejays were led by McDermott’s 19 points, but got fiver other players in double figures, led by reserve Avery Dingman’s 16. Creighton hit 11 three’s, shot it better than 50% from the field and racked up 19 team assists. The Bluejays now rank second in the country in assists, averaging 18.8 a game.
This is the game of the week in the Big East and while both teams are fairly evenly matched, I am going to go with the home team and the more efficient squad. Look for 20+ from McDermott in this one and multiple players to get involved as Creighton’s depth and deep shooting ability are the difference in the Bluejays squeaking out the cover at home.
