The Charleston Cougars visit the Northeastern Huskies in CAA action Monday night from Matthews arena at 7PM.
Charleston saw their four game winning streak come to an end this past week as they fell 75-71 to the Hofstra Pride. The loss moved the Cougars to 9-8 overall on the year. Hofstra erased a halftime Cougar lead and held on with free throws in the late minutes to take the win. The Cougars had key players step up in this one but were unable to convert buckets late -- Nori Johnson had 25 off the bench to lead all scorers and guard Anthony Stitt had a very solid game totaling 17 points, 9 boards and 7 assists. Adejhi Baru added 13 and 7 in the paint.

Northeastern’s early season struggles are looking like they will be the theme for this season as the Huskies sit at 4-12 on the year and are losers of 10 of thier last 12 contests. Most recently, the Huskies fell short against Drexel 93-88 in 2OT’s. Drexel was able to hit a few clutch buckets late in the 2nd OT session to seal the game. The Huskies have struggled in the backcourt without the presence of guard Quincy Ford who is out for the year. Demetrius Pollard led the way with 19 points and big man Scott Eatherton added 18 and 10. The Huskies also committed 25 personal fouls that Drexel converted into 25 points at the lime (25-31 for the game).
Northeastern’s struggles seem to rear their head on the road and at home and despite their ability to take a solid Drexel team to double OT, the Huskies are too inconsistent in my eyes and I see a Charleston victory looming. Look for Baru and Stitt to make it back to back solid games as the Cougars get back in the win column on the road with the cover.
