The St. John’s Red Storm visit the windy city to battle the DePaul Blue Demons Tuesday night at 7PM on Fox Sports 1.

St. John’s rolls into town sitting at 9-6 on the year and sitting firmly in 9th place in the big east conference.  The Johnnies fell short against the 8th ranked Villanova Wildcats this past weekend 74-67.  St. John’s was solid for a half in this one before the Wildcats caught fire in the second half and pulled ahead for the comfortable victory.  D’Angelo Harrison led the way for the Red Storm with 22 points and a very solid 13-14 at the line.  Jakarr Sampson added 10 and 9 for St. John’s, who was undone by another poor showing from their bench.  The Red Storm will need better play from its reserves, namely Sir’Dominic Pointer and Max Hooper if they want to dig out of the bottom of the pack and make a move in conference.

DePaul Blue Demons vs. St. John's Red Storm Pick-Odds-Prediction 1/14/14

DePaul moved above .500 this past week with a thrilling, 2OT win at Butler.  The Blue Demons finally found themselves on the better end of an exciting road game after falling short many times last year.  The Blue Demons erased a few small second half deficits before forcing the extra periods, where they were fueled by the play of Cleveland Melvin.  The Baltimore native finished the game with a game high 30 points and added 8 boards.  Tommy Hamilton IV added 17 and 12 for the Blue Demons who finished the game with a season high 58.7% shooting from the floor.

These two teams are fairly evenly matched and both have been on the short end of some tough early season losses.  With a road win in a tough arena under their belt, I am going to have to go with the hotter team here and that is the DePaul Blue Demons.  I like DePaul to ride the hot hand of Melvin and for Brandon Young to have a big game as the Blue Demons starting five push them over the hump for the victory and cover at home.
