The Notre Dame Fighting Irish travel to Maryland to play the Terps on Wednesday night.
Notre Dame dropped to 10-6 on the year after losing at Georgia Tech 74-69 on Saturday. The Irish shot 40% from the field and only 25% from three-point range. Eric Atkins scored 20 points and Garrick Sherman’s scored 13 points and grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds for the Irish, who were playing their first ACC road game after spending the last 18 seasons in the Big East Conference. On the year, Sherman is averaging a team-high 14.8 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. The Irish average 78.7 points per game while shooting 46.8% from the field as a team this season. Notre Dame is a decent rebounding team and one of the best teams when it comes to distributing the ball on offense, averaging 17.6 assists per contest this year. The Irish have lost two straight games and the loss of Jerian Grant might be catching up to this team. Notre Dame has lost both of their road games this season.

The Maryland Terps dropped to 10-7 on the year after losing at Florida State 85-61 on Sunday night. Maryland shot only 33.3% from the field and 16.7% from three-point range. The Terps reached the charity stripe 34 times and made 70.6% of their attempts. Dez Wells led Maryland with 15 points while Nick Faust added 14. Evan Smotrycz had a team-high 8 rebounds for the Terps. On the season, Wells leads the Terps with 14.4 points per game. Jake Layman averages 12.9 points per game, while Smotrycz is pulling down a team-high 6.8 rebounds per game. The Terps are averaging 72.8 points per game while shooting 43.9% from the field. Maryland is a good rebounding team, but the Terps do not do a good job of distributing the ball on offense, averaging only 12.1 assists per game this season. Maryland has lost two straight contests after winning three straight. This will be the Terps fifth road game of the year; Maryland is 1-3 on the road this season.
These two teams last played in 2011 when Maryland won by 7 points at Notre Dame. Notre Dame is struggling after the loss of Grant and they are trying to figure out their new conference opponents in the ACC. Maryland has been inconsistent all year, but they, like most teams, play much better at home. This should be a good game and I think it will be decided in the final few minutes. I’m going to side with the Fighting Irish in this one.
