The Georgetown Hoyas travel to Xavier to face the Musketeers in their final game of a three game conference road trip Wednesday at 7PM on CBS Sports Network.

Georgetown bounced back from a tough loss at Providence to defeat the Butler Bulldogs on the road in overtime 70-67 on Saturday night.  The Hoyas got a huge three from Markel Starks late that sent the game to overtime and D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera scored 19 total, including key buckets in the extra session that sealed the game.  Starks and Rivera combined for 33 points, 12 boards and 6 assists and continue to emerge as one of the best backcourts in the big east this season.  Aaron Bowen added 11 off the bench and the Hoyas were able to escape despite struggling in the frontcourt once again.  Georgetown’s starting bigs combined for just 8 points and 8 rebounds -- the Hoyas will need better production from these two moving forward, especially for this contest at Xavier.

Xavier Musketeers vs. Georgetown Hoyas Pick-Odds-Prediction 1/15/14

Dave Weaver-USA TODAY Sports

Xavier fell to Creighton this past weekend for their first conference loss.  The Musketeers played admirably and were in it until the end against one of america’s most efficient teams on the road.  Much like many of Creighton’s opponents this season, the Musketeers could not prevent all-american Doug McDermott from racking up points.  McDermott scored 35 for the Bluejays and Semajj Christian scored 27 for Xavier.  The Musketeers hit 11 threes for the game and Justin Martin added 21 for Xavier.  Big man Matt Stainbrook had 15 as well -- the Musketeers were ultimately undone by fouls.  The Musketeers fouled Creighton 26 times and the Bluejays converted most all of their attempts at the line to hang on late.

Georgetown has been hot and cold all year but has struggled against teams with size down low.  The Musketeers feature a quality center in Matt Stainbrook and I like the Xavier big man to be the difference maker in this contest as Xavier uses their home court advantage and a big scoring night from Semaj Christian to take down the Hoyas at home with the cover.
