The 15-1 UMass Minutemen will experience their fourth road game of the season when it travels to take on the 10-8 Elon Phoenix.
Massachusetts continues to enjoy its most successful season in program history, with its only loss of the year coming at the hands of Florida State. It has won its last five games and point guard Chaz Williams puts on a show on a nightly basis, as the senior is averaging 16.1 points and 7.6 assists per game. The Minutemen are one of the higher scoring teams in the country, averaging 78.9 points per game and shooting a lights out 47.4 percent from the field.

Elon may not have the best record in the world, but a team that can shoot 48.4 percent from the field shouldn’t be taken lightly. The Phoenix average 78 points per game and have four different players scoring in double figures, with senior forward Lucas Troutman leading the way with a solid 16 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.
Even with a batch of solid shooters, Elon is in over its head in this matchup. UMass is solid on both sides of the ball and is averaging close to five more rebounds per game. The rebounding department should make the difference in this game and likely lead to another fairly easy win for the Atlantic 10 favorites. However, I’d feel much safer taking the over in this game. This will be Elon’s biggest game of the year and Alumni Gym should have no problem filling up. Remember, Elon did take UMass to overtime the last time these two teams met in 2012.
The over is 9-2 in Elon’s last 11 home games vs. a team with a winning road record. It also helps that Elon is shooting an impressive 39.4 percent from downtown. With the way both teams shoot the rock, expect a lot of shots to fall.
