The LSU Tigers and the Vanderbilt Commodores face off on Saturday in SEC college basketball action.
The LSU Tigers are 1-2 in SEC play this far as they look to turn their season around. LSU is 6-2 at home this season and they have played the 91st ranked schedule in the country. Johnny O’Bryant III is averaging 13.7 points and they are shooting 7.3 percent to lead the Tigers. Jordan Mickey is averaging 13.2 points and 7.1 rebounds, Andre Stringer is averaging 12.1 points, and Jarell Martin is averaging 9.0 points. LSU is averaging 75.4 points and they are shooting 44.3 percent while defensively they are allowing 68.7 points and their opponents are shooting 38.6 percent. LSU is 10-5 overall but they are tied for eighth place in the SEC.
The Vanderbilt Commodores are 9-6 this season and they are 1-2 in SEC play. Vandy is 2-4 away from home this season and they have played the 82nd ranked schedule in the country this year. Eric Mclellan is the Commodores leading scorer but he is out for this one. Rod Odom is averaging 13.9 points and 5.8 rebounds, Kyle Fuller is averaging 11.3 points, and Damian Jones is averaging 11.1 points. Vanderbilt is averaging 70.2 points and they are shooting 46.2 percent while defensively they are allowing 67.4 points and their opponents are shooting 40.8 percent. Vandy is clearly in a rebuilding year.
LSU is 1-5 against the spread in their last six home games, 1-4-1 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the spread, and 0-3-1 against the spread against the SEC. Vanderbilt is 5-1-1 against the spread against the SEC, 5-2-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 3-0-1 against the spread in their last four games. The road team has covered the point spread in five of the last six meetings of these two.
The line here looks to be on the high side and while like LSU to win my play is on Vandy and the points.
