The Line: San Diego State Aztecs -9.5 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
Because UNLV lost a couple of games recently, the matchup against San Diego State isn't generating as much hype as it should. However, don't sleep on the Rebels when they travel to Viejas Arena at Aztec Bowl and play a key matchup in the Mountain West Conference.
The Azetcs of course are one of the better teams in the country. They’ve beaten Creigton, Marquette and Kansas, while also giving Arizona a scare earlier in the season. They rebound extremely well (40.6 per game) and the length and athleticism of each player makes it difficult for the opponent. Having won 14 games in a row and covering the spread in five straight, San Diego State is one hot team that bettors may want to continue to ride.
However, UNLV is a team that matches up well. Roscoe Smith is a rebound machine, who is averaging an insane 12.5 rebounds and 12 points per game. Kehm Birch is also a big body, who is averaging close to 10 rebounds per game and double-digit points. UNLV also shoots (45.1 percent) and shares the ball better (14.1 assists) than San Diego State.
The Aztecs win games simply because they’re a matchup nightmare, but the Rebels are one of the few teams that is capable of going blow-for-blow inside the paint. UNLV is 10-2-1 against the spread in its last 13 games and is 8-0 against the spread in its last eight road games.
Don’t sleep on the visiting team in this matchup. Due to its ability to matchup well on the inside, I even give UNLV a slight chance to win this game SU. After all, that’s been the case in the last three meetings. But just to be on the safe side, take the points and run.
