Marquette looks to get back to .500 in conference play with a tough road test at Georgetown Monday night at 9PM on Fox Sports 1.
Marquette saw an epic collapse in OT drop them to 2-3 in conference this past weekend as Butler finally came out on the right side of an OT contest, pulling away quickly for the 69-57 win. Marquette and Butler struggled offensively most of the night and the Golden Eagles really let up on D in the OT and Butler suddenly heated up and ran away with the 20-8 OT run. The Golden Eagles got just 4 bench points and were led by Devante Gardner’s 17 points and 10 rebounds. Jamil and Derrick Wilson combined for 26 points but once again the Golden Eagles struggled offensively once again.

Georgetown made it three losses in their past four conference games this past weekend as they Hoyas let a 10 point second half lead slip away as the Seton Hall Pirates rallied to win easily by 10 themselves. The Hoyas struggled to just 22 second half points and the Pirates executed flawlessly in their half court sets, quickly erasing their deficit and pulling away for the solid road win. Aaron Bowen was strong off the bench with 13 and 7 and D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera scored 14 for the Hoyas. Markel Starks struggled mightily in this one, going 3-12 from the field and just 1-6 from deep. Making things worse, the Hoyas point guard and floor leader managed just 2 assists as well.
Both of these teams have proven to be very inconsistent and while Georgetown had been pretty solid at home, the Pirates exposed them this past weekend and it is clear that their depth and frontcourt issues are a big problem. Despite losing some close games recently, the Golden Eagles continue to compete and play a very solid defense that keeps them in most all games. I like Marquette to get the win behind a big game from Jamil Wilson as they cover on the road and move back to .500 in conference play.
