The Monmouth Hawks host the Fairfield Stags in a MAAC tilt on Thursday night.
Over the past several years Fairfield has slowly lost the talent that made them a conference heavyweight. The Stags were a team that relied on their defense to control the scoreboard but that has been an issue in 2013-14. The defensive end of the floor came up big versus Belmont but the offense stalled in a 62-53 loss at Belmont. FF allowed nearly 49% shooting and hurt themselves with 16 turnovers that combined with 36% from the field. Leading scorer Marcus Gilbert pumped in 16 points with six pulls while KJ Rose and Maurice Barrow added ten each.

Monmouth's first season in the MACC has produced a 3-5 record thus far in what appears to be a feeling out process for the team. The Hawks have been able to score and defend at times but both have struggled as well. The Hawks picked up one of their best wins of the season with a come from behind 83-82 decision over visiting Canisius who led by double figures in the second half. The home team won the shooting battle 52.6%-51% and muster six more looks which helped to add four more field goals. Andrew Nicholas tossed in a game high 28 points followed by a 20 point, eleven rebound and five assist performance from Deon Jones with Max DiLeo tossing in 15 points.
Monmouth can score but little else while Fairfield has looked improved but needs to get a few stops to win. I see a tossup here between teams that have never met which is risky business...
