The North Texas Mean Green host the Alabama-Birmingham Blazers in Thursday night CUSA action.
North Texas hasn't enjoyed a big start in conference play at 1-3 and need to string together a few wins to avoid falling too far back in a top heavy league. The Mean Green let one get away in a 76-74 loss at Charlotte with a narrow edge in shooting providing the final margin. UNT connected at 51% with the 49ers hitting at 54.5% which resulted in a few more field goals. Brandan Walton led four DD scorers with 13 points with 12 points and six yanks from Jordan Williams followed by the combo of Colin Voss and TJ Taylor with 21 points and nine boards.

Alabama-Birmingham is in the same boat as their counterparts in that a 1-2 start to the CUSA slate means they need to win to avoid falling too far behind in the standings. This is an offense first squad that has seen improved performances at the defensive end of the floor over the last month or so. The defense came up big but not the offense in a 63-61 loss to visiting Texas El Paso. A few more field goals was all that separated the two with the Blazers 2-14 mark from long range hurting them the most. Alabama-Birmingham received 17 points and six pulls from Rod Rucker with Chad Frazier and CJ Washington netting 13 and eleven points.
I think both teams are more equal then not which explains the small spread. I think Alabama-Birmingham is better but I'll try the points with the home team for the time being...
