About the only thing either team has to look forward to this season is the in-state rivalry. That’s what Florida Atlantic and Florida International will get Saturday afternoon when they meet in the U.S. Century Bank Arena.
The Owls are actually coming off of a shocking win over Harvard on Tuesday night. They shot an unbelievable 46.9 percent from the field and produced 12 blocks. Where has this been all season? They’re still 7-12 on the season and 2-2 in C-USA play. But to be fair, they have won four of their last six games and are shooting a cool 37.4 percent from beyond the arc during their last five. This type of play could make the Owls a valuable team the rest of the way.

Florida International hasn’t been so lucky, losing five of its last seven games. Its 30.8 shooting percentage from three and 66.4 percentage from the charity stripe is terrible, as are the 14 turnovers the team averages on a nightly basis. Although the Panthers do have a 10-9 record this season, they simply haven’t shown much throughout the year to earn your trust. After all, they are 5-6 against the spread this season.
I say you have to continue to ride the hot hand in this one. FAU just beat a pretty good basketball team and is starting to find a rhythm. The Owls are 9-2 against the spread in their last 11 games against a team with a winning straight up record. They’re also 7-1 against the spread in their last eight games played on Saturday.
The Owls will get the job done and improve to 9-6 against the spread this season.
