Dayton and Rhode Island will square off Saturday afternoon in a battle between two teams that could use a win right about now. The Flyers have lost two straight and three of their last four, while the Rams have lost four of their last five.
It’s hard to blame Dayton for its recent struggles considering it’s had a brutal schedule that’s included Saint Louis, Richmond and VCU. But if this team hopes to take that next step and become a legitimate NCAA contender, those are the type of games that need to produce victories. The Flyers continue to shoot a high percentage from just about everywhere on the court but that defense has been their downfall, allowing opponents to average 73.6 points during the last five games.

Rhode Island just can’t catch a break due to poor shooting from just about everybody. We knew the team struggled to score heading into the season, but 26.9 percent from downtown and 60.8 points during the last five games provides you the reasons for the horrible losing stretch. The Rams are struggling drastically on both sides of the ball and will likely be in for a long day against the more talented Dayton.
The Flyers are the better team and has been playing the better basketball, they just ran into a tough stretch. Good thing is they usually bounce back, as they’re 4-1 against the spread in their last five games following a straight up loss. They’re also a solid 6-2 against the spread on the road this season.
Take Dayton in a bounce back performance.
