The 4th ranked Villanova Wildcats take on the Georgetown Hoyas from the Verizon Center Monday night at 9PM on Fox Sports 1.

Villanova got back in their groove Saturday afternoon as they defeated the Marquette Golden Eagles in OT at the Bradley Center 94-85.  Villanova’s starting five was sensational in this one as the Wildcats got 30 points from James Bell and a combined 40 points and 12 assists from Darrun Hilliard II and Ryan Arcidiacono.  Jayvaughn Pinkston added 12 points and 8 boards and made some key defensive stops late in the game.  After Marquette forced OT late, the Wildcats went on a 17-8 run in the extra session to secure the win.  The Wildcats had just 8 turnovers to 18 assists and the win moves the Wildcats to 6-1 in conference play.

Georgetown’s struggles continued this weekend as they visited Creighton and return home with their fourth straight loss.  The Bluejays broke open a close contest early with a run just before the half that gave them a 10 point lead that they never looked back from.  The Bluejays didn’t manage 21 threes like they did against Villanova, but the Bluejays knocked down 7 of them in this game and got 14 and 10 from Doug McDermott.  Will Artino added 14 off the bench and Creighton also took advantage of the recent absence of Georgetown big man Josh Smith with a 39-31 edge on the boards.  The win moves Creighton into sole first place with a 7-1 mark on the year.

Georgetown is really reeling at this point and their woes are now surfacing both at home and on the road.  Teams are letting Georgetown’s backcourt have their way and are focusing in on stopping all the other Hoyas on the floor -- an easy task for defenses these days.  I like the Wildcats depth and physical play to wear down Georgetown and eventually result in a double digit cover win on the road.
