Notre Dame dropped to 11-9, 2-5 ACC after losing at Wake Forest 65-58 on Saturday. The Fighting Irish shot 39.3% from the field and only 12.5% from three-point range. Garrick Sherman scored a team-high 20 points for Notre Dame, who was denied their first ACC road victory. Eric Atkins scored 13 points and Pat Connaughton added 10 points for Notre Dame, which has lost five of six after its upset of Duke. On the year, Sherman averages a team-high 15.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Atkins averages a team-high 5 assists, while Connaughton averages 7.5 boards per contest. The Irish are averaging 76.4 points per game while shooting a solid 46.3% from the field as a team this season. Notre Dame will be back home for this game; the Irish have lost three games on their home floor this season.
Virginia is playing some great basketball right now, while Notre Dame has been struggling for the past month. The Cavaliers have shown they can hang with the elite in the ACC and they have proven they can win on the road. Notre Dame offensive efficiency has dropped tremendously over the past month and I’m not sure if the Irish can get back on their feet this season. I’m going to side with the hotter team on the road in conference play. Virginia wins and covers on Tuesday night.
