The Line: Dayton Flyers -6.5 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
Dayton will put its three-game losing streak on the line Wednesday when it hosts 13-6 St. Joseph’s. Boy, this should be fun.
I’m not quite sure what’s happened to Dayton. Ever since the calendar changed, it’s a team that has lost four of its last five games and just can’t stop the other team from scoring. In their last five games, the Flyers are allowing 75.2 points per game, which is almost seven more points allowed than the season average. They’re still getting scoring contributions from several different players, but this isn’t the same team that beat Gonzaga and gave Baylor a run for its money earlier in the year.
Don’t look now, Saint Joseph’s has won four of its last five. It’s knocking down more than 51 percent of its shots and 46.6 from beyond the arc during the winning streak. The Hawks are playing their best basketball yet, but they are still lacking that marquee victory. They lost to Richmond, Massachusetts, Villanova, Temple, LSU and Creighton.
Could this be the game that helps put the Hawks on the college basketball radar?
I’m not sure. But I do know that St. Joseph’s should be able to cover this game. It’s red hot offensively and has the big bodies in the paint who can go toe-to-toe with Dayton’s bigs. If anything, this is just a bet against Dayton, a team that is 1-4 against the spread in its last five games. The Flyers are a mess right now and should be avoided at all costs.
Meanwhile, the Hawks are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games against Dayton. Give me the road team and the points, please.
