Well, a clash between Richmond and Saint Louis is looking a little better than expected. The Spiders have won four straight, including upsetting Dayton and Massachusetts, while Saint Louis continues to cruise with an 18-2 record and winners of 12 straight.
Richmond has strung together many wins due to great defense. In the last five games, it’s holding opponents to 41 percent shooting and 67.8 points per game. The Spiders have also improved their offense a bit, shooting an impressive 35.9 percent from downtown. Not known as a great three-point shooting team, they made 10 in the victory over St. Joseph’s. Richmond is getting contributions from everybody on both sides of the floor and is finally playing with a little consistency.

St. Louis has been able to match that type of defensive intensity all season long. In its last five games, opponents are only making 37 percent of their shots and are lucky to break the 60-point mark. The Billikens are averaging more than seven steals, close to five blocks and allow less than 30 percent of three balls to go in. Saint Louis prides itself on suffocating defense and forcing turnovers, which could create problems for a Richmond team that can get carless with the ball.
You have to take the home team in this game. Not only is Saint Louis the better team, but Richmond hasn’t exactly been great on the road. The Spiders lost to Wake Forest, lost to St. Bonaventure, needed overtime to beat Fordham and only beat Northeastern by four points, all away from home.
The Billikens are 17-4 against the spread in their last 21 games against Atlantic 10 competition.
Take the home team!
