Florida Atlantic travels to Charlotte Thursday night to play the 49ers in the Dale F. Halton Center.
It’s really tough to get a great feel for the Owls. One minute they’re beating the brains out of Harvard, the next they’re getting smoked by Florida International.

Will the real Florida Atlantic please stand up?
Florida Atlantic continues to rely on a solid defense that is allowing opponents to shoot just 39.4 percent in its last five games. That defense held Harvard to just 23 percent shooting and 2-12 from downtown. However, the offense has been lacking as the Owls have scored 70 or more points just once in their last four games.
Charlotte has been experiencing a bumpy ride lately, losing back-to-back games on the road. The lack of defense is the reason for that with nearly 80 points allowed in its last five games. The 49ers are allowing teams to shoot a high percentage from the field and they can’t keep up on the other end.
Even with losses in two of their last three, I still think the 49ers are one of the better teams in the Conference USA. Florida Atlantic has improved after the last couple of weeks, but it is still an inconsistent team that you can’t trust. With that said, you have to go with the home team in Charlotte.
Both teams are 8-7 against the spread this season but FAU is 1-8 straight up on the road and Charlotte is 7-2 straight up on its home court.
Look for the 49ers to bounce back at home and cover the chalk.
