The Houston Cougars square off with AAC rival the Connecticut Huskies on Thursday night.
Houston has been struggling the last few weeks as losers in four of five which has the Cougars staring at a 3-4 conference that is top heavy. Neither end of the floor has been consistently strong in the stretch that was capped off by a 75-68 loss to visiting Southern Methodist on Sunday. UH did shoot the ball well at almost 48% but 16 giveaways led to more shots for the Mustangs who took full advantage. Danuel House paced the offense with 22 points including a 4-7 mark on threes while TaShawn Thomas added 13 points and eleven rebounds.

Connecticut stands at an impressive 16-4 on the season with a decent #62 strength of schedule. The Huskies are 3-3 in the AAC which means they have to begin stringing together some conference victories to avoid falling too far behind the top teams. UConn has done just that with wins in five of six after knocking off Rutgers 82-76. The key was the difference in shooting with the Huskies leading that department 48%-41% which added up to five more field goals. Shabazz Napier led all scorers with 26 points with Ryan Boatright next in line with 12 followed by Amida Brimah and Niels Giffey netted 19 points.
If Connecticut plays as they have they will cover and I'm going on the theory that they can't afford to lose if that AAC championship is on the wish list. We shall see because huge spreads in conference action are not the best bets...
