The Western Carolina Catamounts shoot for a road win versus the Elon Phoenix at Alumni Gym.
Third in the Southern isn't a bad spot to be in from a Western Carolina perspective as they are one game behind Davidson for second and two out of first with a ton of season yet to be played. The Catamounts ended a two game skid with a solid all around effort in a 78-60 rout of the Citadel on the road with a 14 point bulge after 20 minutes holding up. WCU won the shooting battle 45.5%-32.6% and totaled 20 more attempts which were put to good use. Tom Tankelewicz headed a balanced attack with 15 points with Josh Mendenhall and Justin Browning contributing ten points each with the latter posting seven boards.

Elon likes to get and run the floor with the end result being a lot of points being scored which is exactly the same things opponents generally do when facing the Phoenix. That didn't work at Samford who slowed things in the halfcourt an squeaked out a 62-59 decision. That saddled one of the preseason favorites in the conference with three defeats in a row as 39% shooting and a 10-26 mark from long range were not enough to counter the Bulldogs 52% from the floor. The generally high scoring Phoenix received 16 points and five helpers from Jack Isenbarger with Ryley Beaumont tossing in 13 followed by a combined 17 points from Tanner Samson and Lucas Troutman.
Western Carolina won this match up a few weeks ago and should have the confidence to do it again except the road has been a problem. I think Elon is better then their record but their 6-13 ATS mark is a concern...
