The Monmouth Hawks take the show on the road when they visit the Marist Red Foxes Thursday.
Monmouth is probably going through a feeling out process in their first season as member of the MAAC and they have probably learned they will be outscored if they try to match baskets with some of the bigger attacks. Rider doesn't fall in that category but did with a 13 point burst in overtime to win 77-71 on Sunday to spoil a Hawks rally from 17 down. Although the score was controlled with it knotted at 64 in regulation there was plenty of action with both combining 21 long balls as well as 37 turnovers. Monmouth received 12 points apiece from Max DiLeo and Collin Stewart while Deon Jones and Andrew Nicholas scored ten each with Jones grabbing a team high seven boards.

For those of us that follow MACC basketball we know the struggles this team has had at both ends of the floor. Although the Red Foxes have been outscored 71-64 overall it still is a marked improvement over previous campaigns. The struggles resumed in a 78-65 loss at Canisius on Sunday as a 14 point haltime deficit did them in. The Golden Griffins shot the ball slightly better at 47%-44% but left their mark at the stripe where 23 Marist personals were turned in to a 24-11 advantage. Chavaughn Lewis and Khallid Hart led the attack with 18 and 17 points respectively with Adam Kemp dropping 14 and Jay Bowie coming up with 12 points and 12 rebounds. This might have been enough had it not been for the Golden Giffins Billy Baron who went off for 38 points.
I expected Marist to be favored but at basket or there about so I am surprised it's this high. On the other hand Monmouth never was lined before this year so we don't know a ton about them. For now I'll side with the points...
