The Line: Yale Bulldogs -3.5 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
Friday night will actually feature a fairly decent Ivy League matchup between Columbia and Yale. The Lions are one of the better teams in the conference and winners of six straight, the Bulldogs have won two of their last three.
Columbia has been playing lights out basketball as of late, averaging 74 points and shooting 45.2 percent from the field in its last five games. Defensively, it’s holding teams to under 40 percent shooting and only 62.6 points. On the season, the Lions continue to get scoring contributions from Alex Rosenberg and Maodo Lo, two players who have scored in the double figures in six straight games. That’d explain the winning streak, huh?

The Bulldogs have been a little behind, but they’ve had a difficult schedule to blame. They played road games against Connecticut, Rutgers, Providence and Saint Louis. All teams they gave an honest fight before losing. They’ve been a little lousy on defense as of late, allowing teams to shoot 46.7 percent in their last five games, which isn’t going to cut it when they are shooting only 42.5 percent on the season.
Yale is going to put up a fight, but I don’t think it’ll be good enough to cover the spread. Columbia is too good of a team and balanced on both sides of the ball. Its snipe shooters from downtown will expose the Bulldogs defense and help this game get out of hand a bit.
The Lions are 6-3 against the spread this season and the favorite is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings between these two teams. The wrong team is favored here, as Columbia will win its second straight game over Yale for the first time in forever. But I'd glady take the points.
