The Alabama Crimson Tide and the Tennessee Volunteers face off on Saturday in Tuscaloosa in SEC college basketball.
The Alabama Crimson Tide have lost three of their last four games and are coming off of a 19-point starching at the hands of archrival Auburn. Alabama has played the second toughest schedule in the nation going 9-3 at home but not winning away from home. Trevor Releford leads the Tide averaging 18.1 points per game. Retin Obasohan is averaging 12.1 points, Levi Randolph is averaging 9.2 points, and Nick Jacobs is averaging 8.4 points. Alabama is averaging 69.8 points and they are shooting 44.8 percent while defensively they are allowing 67.4 points and their opponents are shooting 42 percent. Four of Alabama’s next five games are on the road.

The Tennessee Volunteers have won three of their last five games to stand at 4-3 and tied for fourth place in the SEC. Tennessee is 3-4 on the road and they have played the 12th ranked schedule in the country. Jordan McCrae leads the Vols in scoring averaging 18.9 points per game. Jarnell Stokes is averaging 13.6 points and 9.9 rebounds, Jeronne Maymon is averaging 11.3 points and 8.2 rebounds, and Josh Richardson is averaging 8.8 points. Tennessee is averaging 73.7 points and they are shooting 44.5 percent while defensively they are allowing 63.8 points and their opponents are shooting 42 percent. Tennessee has talent and experience but it hasn’t translated to consistency.
Alabama is 1-4-1 against the spread in their last six home games, 0-3-1 against the spread against the SEC, and 2-9-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Tennessee is 4-1 against the spread in their last five games, 15-7 against the spread following a game that they covered the spread, and 4-1 against the spread against a team with a losing record. The road team has covered the point spread in five of the last seven meetings of these two.
Tennessee is the better team but which Vol team shows up? I don’t love this game but forced to make a choice I will go with Tennessee.
