The Illinois Fighting Illini and the Iowa Hawkeyes face off on Saturday in Big Ten college basketball.
The Illinois Fighting Illini have lost six games in a row and what once looked like it might be a promising season is slipping away from them. Illinois is 9-2 at home this season and 0-3 against teams ranked in the top 25 as they are tied for last place in the Big 10 standings. Rayvonte Rice leads the Illini averaging 16.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. Tracy Abrams is averaging 12.1 points, Joseph Bertrand is averaging 10.6 points and 5.3 rebounds, and Jon Ekey is averaging 8.0 points and 5 rebounds. As a team Illinois is averaging 67.5 points and they are shooting 41.2 percent while defensively they are allowing 63.3 points and their opponents are shooting 41.3 percent. Illinois was a NCAA Tournament team a year ago but they aren’t looking like one now.

The Iowa Hawkeyes have lost two of their last three games but both have been to top tier teams in Michigan and Michigan State. Iowa is 5-4 away from home playing the 63rd ranked schedule in the country and they are in third place in the Big Ten. Roy Devyn Marble leads the Hawkeyes averaging 16.3 points per game. Aaron White is averaging 13.5 points and 6.5 rebounds, Jarrod Uthoff is averaging 8.9 points and 5.4 rebounds, and Melsahn Basabe is averaging 8.1 points and 6.6 rebounds. Iowa is averaging 84.5 points and they are shooting 47.4 percent while defensively they are allowing 6.4 points and their opponents are shooting 37.9 percent. Iowa plays a tough style that keeps them in games and seems to always give them a chance to win.
Illinois is 2-7 against the spread in their last nine home games against a team with a winning road record, 1-5 against the spread in their last six games, and 1-4 against the spread in their last five games against a team with a winning record. Iowa is 7-1 against the spread following a loss, 5-1 against the spread in their last six road games, and 36-16 against the spread in their last 52 games overall. Iowa is 2-5 against the spread in the last seven meetings of these two.
My free pick in this game is going to be on the total which at 138.5 appears to be too low as I have this one in the high 140's so my pick is the Over. My stronger pick is on who will cover the spread and I will post that pick in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
