Saint Louis is close to setting school record winning streaks if it can continue to build on its 13 consecutive wins. That shouldn’t be much of a problem with George Mason coming to town Saturday afternoon. The Patriots are on the other side of things, losing their last seven straight.
George Mason still can’t catch a break for whatever season. It’s lost its last five games by six or less points. That includes a matchup against Massachusetts that came down to the final shot, an overtime game against Rhode Island and a four-point loss to a hot St. Joseph’s squad. The reason for the close losses has to do with a defense that is allowing opponents to shoot 51.1 percent in its last five games.

The Patriots have allowed more than 70 points in eight straight matchups.
Saint Louis isn’t going to scare George Mason offensively, but it will be able to make things tough for the Patriots to score points. Opponents are shooting only 35.4 percent and scoring 59.2 points in the last five games against the Billikens defense. That’s truly as good as it gets. Offensively, Jordair Jett is coming off a 21-point performance in a win over Richmond.
Usually I’d side with George Mason and the points. It’s been playing close games the last two weeks and will continue to fight. But Saint Louis is an NCAA Tournament team that is in a different class than what the Patriots have been playing.
The Billikens are 4-1 against the spread in their last five home games and are 11-1 SU on their home court.
The struggle will continue for George Mason.
