The Line: UAB Blazers -10 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
East Carolina will put its six-game losing streak on the line when it takes on UAB Saturday afternoon. The Blazers have won three of their last five.
Plain and simple: The Pirates are just a bad basketball team. Sure, it averages a sexy 77.9 points per game and shoots a high percentage. But as they are finding out, it doesn’t mean anything when the other team is shooting 46.9 percent from the field. And to make matters worse, the Pirates are only averaging 59.6 points in their last five games and allowing their opponent to score 69.8 points.
Gee, I wonder why they can’t win a game.
UAB is still sticking to its roots of playing great defense and rebounding the basketball. It leads the country with an average of 47 boards per game and is holding teams to just 40.5 percent shooting. The Blazers are also 3-0 in their last three games when scoring 70 or more points. Well, that shouldn’t be difficult against East Carolina’s defense.
I really hate laying the big chalk, but the Pirates have given me no reason not to. They play no defense, aren’t scoring like they usually do and are 3-9-2 against the spread this season, which includes 0-5 in their last five games.
UAB is a much better 8-8 against the spread. It is also 11-1 at home and should have little trouble dropping East Carolina to 0-7 in conference play.
Take the Blazers are run.
