The Butler Bulldogs visit Milwaukee Tuesday night to face the Marquette Golden Eagles at 9PM on Fox Sports 1.
Butler comes to town fresh off a solid road win at Seton Hall this past week 64-57. The Bulldogs were desperate for a win and a strong showing by their forwards was the difference in this one. Butler got 35 points, 13 boards and 6 assists from Khyle Marshall, Kameron Woods and Andrew Chrabascz and the Bulldogs knocked down 7 threes as they pulled away in the second half for the win. Butler forced 8 steals, won the rebounding battle and held the Pirates offense to just 40% shooting for the game. The win was just the Bulldogs second of the year in conference play.
Marquette eagerly returns home after another lackluster showing on the road. This past weekend, the Golden Eagles were upended by St. John’s 74-59. Marquette struggled shooting the ball and the Red Storm ran out to an early double digit lead that they never gave back. Derrick Wilson led the Golden Eagles with 14 points but Marquette shot the ball just 34.8% for the game and were a terrible 3-14 from deep -- an area where you have to excel to get road wins in this conference. The loss dropped Marquette below .500 in conference play at the halfway point -- an unfamiliar area for the Golden Eagles.
Butler and Marquette have certainly underachieved this season much to the surprise of many. Despite their struggles on the road, Marquette continues to play extremely well at home and I don’t expect the thin roster of Butler to come into town and make much noise. Jamil Wilson and Derrick Wilson combined for 25 plus points as Marquette rides the Bradley center faithful to the cover at home and get back to .500 in conference play.
