The Michigan Wolverines and the Nebraskan Cornhuskers face off on Wednesday in Ann Arbor in Big Ten college basketball.
The Michigan Wolverines are coming off of their first Big Ten conference loss of the season as they fell to Indiana in Bloomington on Sunday. Michigan is 9-1 at home this season, 8-1 in the Big Ten, and they have played the 15th most difficult schedule in the country. Nik Stauskas is the Wolverine’s leading scorer averaging 17.8 points per game. Glenn Robinson III is averaging 13.1 points, Caris LeVert is averaging 12 points, and Derrick Walton Jr. is averaging 8.8 points. As a team Michigan is averaging 76 points and they are shooting 48.6 percent while defensively they are allowing 64.3 points and their opponents are shooting 43.7 percent. This game should be a good barometer to see if the loss at Indiana was just a blip on the radar of the course of a Big Ten season or cause for greater concern.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have won three of their last four games and while all of those were Big Ten conference games they were all at home. Nebraska is 1-8 away from home this season, 3-5 against the Big Ten, and 1-6 against teams ranked in the top 25. Terrence Petteway leads the Huskers averaging 18.1 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. Shavon Shields is averaging 11 points and 5.7 rebounds, Walter Pitchford is averaging 8.3 points and Ray Gallegos is averaging 8.2 points. Nebraska is averaging 68.7 points and they are shooting 43.2 percent while defensively they are allowing 67.2 points and their opponents are shooting 44.2 percent. Nebraska has shown big improvement over the course of the season.
Michigan is 4-1-1 against the spread in their last six home games, 7-3-1 against the spread in their last 11 games, and 5-0 against the spread in their last five home games against a team with a losing road record. Nebraska is 6-0 against the spread in their last six games, 5-0 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 9-19 in their last 28 road games against a team with a winning home record.
This is just a ton of points and Nebraska just isn’t that bad of a team. Michigan wins but 10 is the max and that might even be a reach.
