The Monmouth Hawks and Fairfield Stags will clash on Friday night at the Webster Bank Arena at Harbor Yard on ESPN3. The Hawks have lost three in a row and the Stags have lost five in a row. So, somebodies losing streak will finally end.
These two teams played one another of the end of January and Monmouth won 63-60.

That’s pretty much been the story for the Stags all season, they just can’t seem to win the close games. They’ve lost countless games this season by single digits, on the last shot, you name it, they just can’t get over the hump for whatever reason. Of course, it would help if the offense could pick things up. In their last five games, they’re shooting an ice cold 37.5 percent from the field and scoring 58.4 points, which is even lower than their season averages. Defensively, they’re allowing 46 percent and 69.2 points.
On the season the Hawks are shooting 42.1 percent from the field and averaging 71.3 points. Those numbers have increased just a little in their last five games, as they’re shooting 43.6 percent and scoring 72.2 points. Defensively the Hawks could be better, allowing 74.1 points on 44.4 percent shooting.
We know Fairfield finds ways to lose and has only won one game in the year 2014. But Monmouth isn’t world-beaters and are only 3-8 straight up on the road. The Stags played the Hawks extremely well back in New Jersey and should have some type of confidence heading into this game that will be nationally televised.
I’ll take the competitive home team and the small chalk.
