San Jose State hopes a visit to Fresno State could snap its 10-game losing streak.
Uh, yeah right.
Needless to say, he Spartans have been an absolute mess this season. They’re shooting just 38.8 percent from the field and scoring just 65.2 points per game. They haven’t even scored at least 50 points in their last two losses and haven’t hit the 70-point mark once in the year 2014. Defensively, teams manage to shoot 44 percent and average 73 points. Surprisingly, they aren’t that bad against the spread with an overall record of 9-11 and 6-7 on the road.
The Bulldogs have won two straight games, including a road matchup against Air Force. For the first time all year they actually played defense, holding the Falcons to 38.3 percent shooting and forcing 20 turnovers. Still, in their last five games, teams are shooting 46.1 percent from the field and averaging 74.6 points. Offensively, they bumped their points per game average to 74.4 but are shooting just 41.4 percent. They are 10-10-1 against the spread and 4-6 ATS at home.
It is no secret Fresno State is the better team and is finally starting to generate a little momentum. However, asking Fresno State to win by 13 points may be asking for a bit much. The Bulldogs play games tight and don’t have the offensive firepower or defensive ability to open a game up like that consistently.
San Jose State is 4-1 ATS in its last five meetings against Fresno State.
I’m not really confident in either side, but I do feel a little more comfortable knowing I’m getting points in a battle between two mediocre clubs.
