The Butler Bulldogs visit our nation’s capital for a showdown with the Georgetown Hoyas Saturday at 1PM on CBS.
Butler continues to struggle this season and currently sits at 12-10 and 2-8 in conference play. The Bulldogs lost at Marquette this past week 69-62. Usually known for their unselfish play and efficient offense, the Bulldogs continue to struggle mightily at the point guard spot and their national assist ranking reflects that (279th) with 11.1 assists per game. Kellen Dunham leads the Bulldogs in scoring with 17.5 points per game and Khyle Marshall averages 15.5 -- the Bulldogs continue to struggle to find any other consistent contributors. Their game Saturday marks the start of a rough three game stretch featuring Georgetown, Creighton and Xavier.

Georgetown rides a two game winning streak into this contest as they try to salvage their conference season and make a push for tourney play. The Hoyas used a very strong second half to defeat DePaul this past week 71-59. The move put the Hoyas at 4-6 in Big East play. The Hoyas are led by D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera and Markel Starks -- both back court players average 16.8 ppg and are the driving force of Georgetown’s success. Despite sitting at 4-6 in conference play, the Hoyas remain just two back of third place in the conference with plenty room to gain ground as the stretch run of big east play looms.
Butler has struggled mightily on the road this season. Both of these teams matchup well in that they are not very good up front and feature back court tandems who can score the ball in bunches. While this matchup is almost a wash on paper, I like the Hoyas duo to win this battle as Starks and Smith-Rivera combine for 30+ to lead the Hoyas to win number 3 in a row with the cover at home.
