The Line: Saint Joseph's Hawks +2.5 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The schedule doesn’t get any easier for the St. Joseph’s Hawks, as they will host the red hot VCU Rams on Saturday night. The Rams have won six straight games and the Hawks have split their last four.
I have mentioned it in pretty much every article the past couple of weeks, VCU is a team that can taste the NCAA Tournament. During their winning streak, the Rams are averaging 80.4 points and shooting 35.6 percent from downtown. Defensively, they are holding teams to 42 percent shooting and 67.4 points. They have taken their game to another level as of late and will look for their third straight road win. Against the spread, the Rams are 10-11 and 6-5 ATS on the road.
The Hawks have tripped up recently, which includes a 65-49 loss to Saint Louis. In that game they shot just 31.9 percent from the field, made one of 15 three-point attempts and scored just 49 points. On the season they’re shooting 46.4 percent and averaging more than 71 points. Defensively, they allow 68.5 points on 43.4 percent shooting. They are 9-8-1 against the spread this season and 3-5-1 ATS at home.
With the line being what it is, it is impossible not to pick VCU. The Rams are just playing at another level and have the same type of defense that will give the Hawks fits. St. Joseph’s has struggled against every solid defensive team it’s played this season and it won’t be any different against VCU.
The Rams are 4-1 ATS in their last five conference games, while the Hawks are 1-3-1 ATS in their last five home games.
Do yourself a favor and take VCU and the small chalk.
