Storyline: The Manhattan Jaspers look to build on their win over Canisius when they visit Niagra Sunday.
The Breakdown: Manhattan improved to 9-4 for 3rd place in the MAAC after a decisive 84-73 victory over Canisius Friday, knocking the Golden Griffins out of first place in the standings. The Jaspers connected on 30 of 58 from the floor and 11 off 22 from distance to Canisius’ 26 of 64 from the field and 6 of 14 from outside the arc. Manhattan also came away with a 46-32 advantage on the boards and 12 blocks. Senior F George Beamon scored a game-high 27 points, including 5 of 9 from downtown, sophomore F Ashton Pankey had 16 points and 11 rebounds, and sophomore F Shane Richards added 14 points off the bench. On the season, the jaspers are averaging 77.5 ppg on 43.3 percent shooting. Beamon leads the team with 18.9 ppg, followed by senior G Michael Alvarado at 13.6 ppg.

Meanwhile, Niagra dropped to 3-10 and 10th place in the conference after suffering its third straight loss 90-89 at Iona Friday. The Purple Eagles were outshot from the field 50.9 percent to 46.8 percent and from distance 45.2 percent to 25.0 percent. Niagra dominated the boards 48-30, but struggled from the free throw line, converting just 12 of 23. Freshman F Ramone Snowden scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, freshman G Wesley Myers ad 16 points, and sophomore G Rayvon Harris added 14 points and 12 boards off the bench. Through 24 games, the Purple Eagles are averaging 76.7 ppg on 42.7 percent shooting. Junior G Antoine Mason leads the team with 26.0 ppg.

Niagra does have one of the nation’s leading scorers in Antoine Mason, but he hasn’t been getting it done as the Purple eagles have lost three in a row and his 26.0 ppg average has dropped to 16.3 in that stretch.
