The Northern Illinois Huskies look for a home win over the visiting Western Michigan Broncos.
Western Michigan is locked in a three way tie for third in the MAC following wins in four of five that upped their conference record to 6-3. The Broncos have little room for error with 5-6 teams within a game of one another but if they continue to score the basketball the way we saw in a 90-74 rout of Ohio on Wednesday they might be the team to watch. The Bobcats put up a fight for a half with 52% shooting but the Broncos connected at nearly 60% and owned a 26-9 edge at the line. Austin Richie and David Brown were the nucleus of the attack with 22 and 20 points with Connar Tavin and Shayne Whittington adding 18 points apiece.

At 4-5 in the conference Northern Illinois is in a seventh place tie but only two games out of third with nine games remaining in the regular season so there is plenty of opportunities to move up the pack. The time for making a move is now with NIU playing their best basketball with three straight wins following a 53-41 win over Miami (Ohio). The Huskies hit at only 41% from the field but that was plenty with the Redhawks held to just 30% with a scant 14 second half points. Northern Illinois was a three headed attack with Aksel Bolin, Travon Baker and Aaron Armstead scoring ten points each. Even though this wasn't a big scoring affair the Huskies received points from nine players.
I don't have any earth changing thoughts here but if Western Michigan has the slightest dream of being a factor in the MAC they have to win this. The offense has to make shots when Northern Illinois tries to slow this down and if the shots fall the Broncos should cover...
