PSU is 3-7 in the Big Ten, 8-5 at home this season, and they are in 11th place in the Big 10 standings. D.J. Newbill leads the Nittany Lions averaging 17.6 points and 5.4 rebounds. Tim Frazier is averaging 16.4 points and 6.1 assists, Brandon Taylor is averaging 9.9 points, and Ross Travis is averaging 9.7 points and 7.1 rebounds. Penn State is averaging 74.8 points ad they are shooting 44.3 percent while defensively they are allowing 72.7 points and their opponents are shooting 41.1 percent. Penn State is in 11th place in the Big Ten standings.

The Illinois Fighting Illini have been in an outright free fall as they sit in last place in the Big Ten standings. Illinois is 2-8 in the Big Ten and they are 4-6 away from home this season. Rayvonte Rice leads the Illini averaging 16.9 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Tracy Abrams is averaging 11.9 points, Joseph Bertrand is averaging 11 points and 5.1 rebounds, and Jon Ekey is averaging 7.9 points and 5.5 rebounds. Illinois is averaging 67.6 points and they are shooting 41.3 percent while defensively they are allowing 64.6 points and their opponents are shooting 41.7 percent. Illinois looked strong before Big Ten play began but since it has started they have been a disappointment.
Penn State is 3-9 against the spread in their last 12 games, 3-8 against the spread against the Big Ten, and 1-6 against the spread in their last seven home games. Illinois is 3-7-2 against the spread in their last 12 home games, 1-7 against the spread in their last eight games overall, and 1-6 against the spread following a loss. The home team has covered the point spread in four of the last five meetings of these two.
Penn State is the better of these two and with the spread at three it is modest enough to lay the points.
