The Duquesne Dukes will host the Richmond Spiders Wednesday night in hopes of snapping their three-game losing streak.
The Spiders have won five of their last seven, which includes a 64-62 win over St. Bonaventure that came down to the very last shot. They continue to play games too close for comfort due to an offense that isn’t capable of putting the ball in the hoop. They average just 68.8 points per game on 43.5 percent shooting. It’s the defense that keeps them in games, as the Spiders allow 65.8 points on 41 percent shooting. They’ve allowed just two teams to score at least 70 points in their last six. They are 9-12-1 ATS and 5-6 ATS on the road.

The Dukes have lost three of their last five and it has a lot to do with the lack of defense. During that stretch they’re allowing teams to score 72.2 points on 46.4 percent shooting. Offensively they have averaged 68.4 points on 41.8 percent shooting. That’s far lower than the 74.9 points on 44.1 percent shooting they’ve averaged on the season. The Dukes are 7-4-2 ATS and 3-2-1 ATS at home.
Richmond has dominated this series, covering the spread eight times in the last nine meetings. However, its leading scorer in Cedrick Lindsay is out for the year with a knee injury. That leaves only one player on the roster who is capable of taking over offensively. The Dukes can fill it up offensively and that’s likely going to happen with the help from the home crowd.
Richmond is solid defensively, but not very good on the road with four losses in its last five road games.
I’ll take Duquesne and the home team in a pick'em.
