George Mason and Massachusetts will play one another for the second time this season. Of course, the Patriots lost 88-87 at the final buzzer in the middle of January.
That loss to the Minutemen was just one of nine straight the Patriots had suffered. That streak was snapped on Saturday, as the Patriots shot 50 percent from the field and beat Duquesne on the road 74-68. On the season things haven’t been that pretty, as they average just 68.8 points per game on 44.1 percent shooting and give up 71.5 points on 45.4 percent shooting. Senior guard Sherrod Wright has scored a combined 41 points in his last two games. The Pats are 8-12 ATS and 6-6 ATS on the road.

UMass has won three of its last five games, including a dogfight of a game Sunday against Rhode Island, where the Minutemen proved they could win on the road. In just their last five games they’re shooting above 49 percent from the field and averaging 75 points, while the defense is giving up just 67.6 points on 37.9 percent shooting. They are 14-9 ATS and 5-5 ATS at home.
While the Minutemen are clearly the better team, George Mason heads into this matchup knowing it nearly pulled off the upset a couple of weeks ago. It will also have a chance against an UMass team that turns the ball over a ton. The Minutemen coughed the ball up 14 times in the previous meeting and 15 times in their most recent game against Rhode Island.
UMass allows teams to hang around with its sloppy play, while George Mason is 4-1 ATS in its last five road games, which includes taking Saint Louis to overtime.
I think asking for a double-digit cover is a bit much. I’ll gladly take the insane amount of points in this one.
