The 18th ranked Creighton Bluejays visit the Butler Bulldogs Thursday night at 7PM on the CBS Sports network.
The Bluejays saw their four game winning streak come to an end this past weekend as they fell at St. John’s 70-65 in one of their worst outings of the season. The loss dropped the Bluejays to 9-2 in conference play and allowed Villanova to emerge from the weekend in sole possesion of first place. The Bluejays got their usual production from star Doug McDermott in this one -- the all-american swingman had 25 points and 5 boards but no other Bluejay stepped up and helped McDermott. The Bluejays were 6 assists under their season average that ranks 2nd nationally (18.1 per game) and Creighton shot the ball just 41% for the game and 22% from deep -- an area where they are usually very consistent. The Bluejays will need to get the win at Butler to keep pace with the surging wildcats as the season gets near its end.

Butler finds themselves in about as bad of a position as they have been in at this point in the regular season in years. The Bulldogs fell to 2-10 in conference play this past weekend and in turn, also fell to 12-12 on the year. The Bulldogs were dominated on their home floor by Xavier 64-50 in an underwhelming offensive showing. Elijah Brown led all scorers with 14 points off the bench and Alex Barlow was the only Butler starter to score in double figures with 11. Khyle Marshall and Kellen Dunham combined for just 8 points on a combined 4-19 shooting for the slumping Bulldogs. Butler continues to battle DePaul for cellar bragging rights in big east play.
This game is a strong play if you are a Creighton supporter. The Bluejays have been surging for a few months now and back to back losses do not appear to be in their DNA. Look for McDermott to have a field day against the thin Butler lineup as the Bluejays reign balls from deep and pull away early in the second half for the comfy cover on the road.
