The Line: North Texas Mean Green -2 -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The North Texas Mean Green will host the Old Dominion Monarchs on Thursday night. Old Dominion has lost three of its last five and the Mean Green has lost four games in a row.
The Mean Green just can’t seem to get in the win column lately and a lot of it has to do with the lack of defense. While they allow 74.5 points on 43.1 percent shooting on the season, they’re allowing 78.8 points on 45.4 percent shooting in their last five games. The offense hasn’t been much better with an average of 69.4 points, which is about two points less than their season average. Crazy enough, they average just 69.4 points at home. Against the spread, they are 8-7-1 and 1-3-1 on their home court.

The Monarchs are back to their losing ways thanks to an offense that averages 60.4 points and shoots 37.3 percent in their last five games. The defense is still one of the best in the C-USA, holding teams to just 65.1 points, but it’s nearly impossible to win games when the offense is one of the worst in all of college basketball. In their last two losses they were held under 50 points. Old Dominion is 10-11 ATS this season and a solid 7-5 ATS on the road.
In a game where neither team is doing so well, I’m always forced to go with the side that’s getting the points. In this case that would be Old Dominion.
Neither team has an offense that’s capable of blowing the other team out and Old Dominions’ defense is good enough to keep this game close.
Expect a game to come down to the wire and for the Monarchs to get the cover.
