Storyline: Manhattan eyes four straight victories when they visit Rider at Alumni Gymnasium Thursday.
The Breakdown: Manhattan improved 10-4 for 2nd place in the MAAC behind its third consecutive victory 78-77 over Niagra Sunday. Senior F Rhamel Brown blocked a game-winning shot attempt from the Purple Eagles as time expired. Brown finished with a team-high 22 points, 6 blocks and 6 rebounds. Senior F George Beamon scored 20 points, including 6 of 7 from the free throw line, and junior G RaShawn Stores added 10 points and 3 steals. Manhattan conceded a 37-32 rebounding advantage, but connected on 49.0 percent from the field to Niagra’s 46.4 percent and forced a whopping 25 turnovers. The Jaspers struggled from the foul line, converting just 25 of 42 and from outside the arc, hitting 3 of 11. On the season, the Jaspers are averaging 77.6 ppg on 43.5 percent shooting. Beamon leads the team with 19.0 ppg, followed by senior G Michael Alvarado at 13.1 ppg.

Meanwhile, Rider has lost its last two and dropped to 8-6 for 5th place in the conference after suffering an 82-61 trouncing at Quinnipiac Saturday. Rider also conceded a 44-30 advantage on the boards. Senior F Daniel Stewart scored a team-high 15 points on 5 of 14 shooting, freshman G Jimmie Taylor had 12 points and 5 rebounds, and sophomore G Khalil Alford added 10 points and 5 boards off the bench.
